Reporting & Communications Services

Sd3 have been advising on the integrated reporting of environmental, social and economic performance- sustainability reporting- to blue chip clients since 1999. Today we are the number two global reporting consultant*, by number of reports, with over 40 to our credit. We have established our reputation by supporting clients in making their first moves and by working in partnership with leading reporters keen to create state of the art communications that create value for the business and its stakeholders and win awards.

How We Can Help You
Working closely with clients to establish their preferred approach, Sd3 offer a bespoke service based around our exclusive six step process:

Step 1

Planning & Concept
Aligning the Report with mainstream business systems, culture and brand is a priority. Here we identify key sustainability issues and context (such as Global Reporting Initiative and other standards), benchmarking these and their communication against peers and stakeholder expectations. These activities produce a reporting and communication strategy that meets audience and client demands.

Step 2

Information Sourcing

Using standardised and bespoke templates we organise information sourcing to facilitate the efficient release of performance data, its interpretation and associated stories. In consultation with the client we will gather and collate information; using techniques ranging from interviews and simple questionnaires through to web-based or intranet information management systems.

Step 3

Drafting & Design

Following an agreed framework, we draft and advise on copy production and also act as editors. We co-ordinate and supervise report design and production liaising with in-house or external designers.

Step 4

Sign-off & Production

To ensure quality, we proof read, confirm details and check conformity with the brand and external standards to smooth sign-off by internal stakeholders and meet production deadlines.

Step 5

Publication & Promotion

As part of broader brand communication, Sd3 give specialist advice on report promotion to make sure your messages get to the desired audience.

Step 6

Report Capitalisation

After publication Sd3 advise on how best to maximise a report's value. This can be achieved for example, by stakeholder dialogue and capturing sustainability management learning. It is through this learning process that organisations can forge themselves a more successful reporting future.

Where we have not given reporting advice, Sd3 also offer an independent external reassurance service for sustainability reports.

New Non-financial Reporting Arrangements (OFR)
Gordon Brown stunned British business during his speech to the CBI in November 2005, announcing that the mandatory Operating and Financial Review (OFR) would be withdrawn. To meet wider EU Directive commitments the Government now proposes reporters prepare a 'Business Review' which must sit in the Director's Report. The Business Review specifically requires information concerning environmental matters, employees and social and community issues including information about company policies on these issues. The Business Review applies broadly to all UK companies except those subject to the normal government small companies regime.

“Key stakeholders such as shareholders, employees and financial institutions want business to be responsible, accountable and transparent. Sustainable development reporting - the evaluation of corporate performance in environmental, social and economic terms - can help companies do this in ways that make business sense.”

World Business Council for Sustainable Development

“Many companies find that financial reporting alone no longer satisfies the needs of shareholders, customers, communities, and other stakeholders for information about overall organisational performance. ”

The Global Reporting Initiative

We are a registered Organisational Stakeholder of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and support the mission of the GRI to develop globally accepted sustainability reporting guidelines through a global, multi-stakeholder process.
