Sd3 Contributes to Spanish CSR Conference

Sd3 Director, Dave Knight recently spoke on sustainable development management systems at the Basque regional CSR conference in Bilbao, Spain. Organised by Aclima, the regional environmental business association with support from the EU and Fundacion Biodiversidad, the two-day conference brought together policy makers, businesses, academics and CSR experts.

In his presentation Dave used his experiences of being a Partner Manager on the SIGMA project, to describe the key differences between traditional management systems and values led approaches. The presentation described how although traditional management system approaches may bring improved processes because they do not examine actual sustainable development performance these systems did not enabling their users to understand how far they are from being sustainable. In contrast values-led systems, such as SIGMA enable the users to evaluate how far and how fast they need to travel to operate in a sustainable way, as well as offering the advantage of integration with existing management approaches.
