Training in Corporate Responsibility, Stakeholder Engagement, Reporting and the AA1000 Assurance Standard

As society's expectations change, it is increasingly important for business to respond to stakeholders' expectations and to effectively manage social, environmental and economic performance in a way that delivers value. We are pleased to be among the first organisations in the world to offer a corporate responsibility training course that is certified to the revised AccountAbility and IRCA criteria. The course covers key elements of corporate responsibility, including stakeholder engagement, reporting and assurance.

Course Benefits
The course will equip companies, practitioners and assurance providers with an understanding of:

The key drivers and benefits of corporate responsibility and sustainability
How to benefit from leading global standards - including the GRI G3 Guidelines, the newly revised AA1000 Assurance Standard and the AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard
How to undertake effective stakeholder engagement
The key components of effective sustainability reporting, and how to ensure you are addressing material issues and providing value for stakeholders
The principles underlying sustainability assurance, including the changes to the AA1000 Assurance Standard and how to apply them

Delegates will also benefit from the opportunity to learn from expert tutors, external speakers, and other delegates. In recent courses delegates have included directors of CSR, managers of reporting, academics, assurance providers, and experts in diverse fields such as financial auditing and community engagement. Delegates are encouraged to share their experience, facilitated through group exercises and discussions.

"Great course, passionate people, lovely venue, and healthy cuisine!" - Mohammad Al Ghaffari, Director of Corporate Responsibility, Jumeirah Group

The course is delivered by trained assurors from Sd3 and csrnetwork, who merged on 1st January 2009 to become Two Tomorrows. Over the last five years, the two companies have provided independent assurance on a total of 67 reports, of which 46 use the AA1000AS standard - more than twice that of the next nearest provider - according to new figures from CorporateRegister.com. This makes the new company the clear market leader in the provision of independent report assurance using the AA1000AS standard.

Course Details
The course is delivered as four modules:

  Foundation in Corporate Responsibility
  Foundation in Stakeholder Engagement
  Foundation in Sustainability Reporting
  Sustainability Assurance Practitioner Training

The modules can be taken individually or together to form a 5-day course.

Module A: Foundation in Corporate Responsibility
This module covers current issues in corporate responsibility, its key drivers and the regulatory context. It will provide delegates with an understanding of the relationship between corporate responsibility, sustainability and accountability as well as explain the benefits that they provide to organisations. The module also provides an overview of leading sustainability guidelines, such as GRI G3 and the AA1000 stakeholder engagement and assurance standards.

Module B: Foundation in Stakeholder Engagement
This module provides delegates with a thorough grounding in the rationale and benefits of undertaking stakeholder engagement, and how it relates to business strategy. It will provide an understanding of both the theory and methodology for effective stakeholder engagement, including how to identify stakeholders and the issues that are likely to be material to them. It covers both the AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard and the UNEP Stakeholder Engagement Manual in detail, and will enable delegates to plan and implement effective stakeholder engagement programmes.

Module C: Foundation in Sustainability Reporting
This module covers sustainability reporting, including its purpose and benefits. Delegates will gain an understanding of the key principles underlying effective reporting, including materiality. The module will also cover the GRI G3 Guidelines in detail, including practical exercises assessing the effectiveness of leading companies' reporting

Module D: Sustainability Assurance Practitioner Training
This module takes place over two days. The first day provides delegates with an understanding of the benefits and principles underlying sustainability assurance. It includes detailed discussion of the changes to the AA1000 Assurance Standard. The second day will provide delegates with an understanding of typical assurance processes and procedures. It includes an opportunity to gain first hand experience through a team-based exercise where delegates will apply the AA1000AS principles to a case study report and write an assurance statement following the AA1000AS.
